Should I Install Ceramic Tiles in My Bathroom?

Ceramic tiles come in so many different shapes, sizes and patterns, so whatever you are looking for there will be something out there for you. However, there are so many different tile options out there so why choose ceramic as your tile option. This article will go through the pros and cons of using ceramic tiles in your bathroom.

Are They Durable?

Ceramic has been around for thousands of years and even to this day, archaeologists are still finding pieces of intact pottery, from many years ago. So in response to the question is pottery durable, yes is the answer. Ceramics durability makes it ideal for use when walking on and it can also be used on the walls to surround the shower as well.

When shopping for your ceramic tiles, it is important to look out for the porcelain enamel Institute (PEI) abrasion test. This test is what manufacturers use to judge how hard the ceramic tiles are. They are rated on a scale between 0 and 5, 0 being the weakest and 5 being the strongest. Grades 1 and 2 offer enough strength to use in the bathroom if you are going to have higher levels of traffic on the tiles or you have kids it may be a good idea to use a higher grade instead.

Are They Expensive?

Ceramics are a more expensive option than some flooring types but they are definitely not the most expensive either. Granite and marble are just two materials that are much more expensive. Although they are more expensive than some materials, they will last a lot longer too and prevent the risk of water damage if anything was to overflow.

Will They Be Cold To Walk On?

Ceramics are not the best at retaining heat. If you install them in your bathroom, it is a good idea to lay good quality bath mats to put down for those cold winter mornings. Another option is adding underfloor heating to your room which is a more costly option but definitely a cosy investment.

Are They Easy To Clean?

Vacuums, brooms and mops are all great options when it comes to cleaning your ceramic tiles. Ceramic luckily doesn’t stain very easily and it doesn’t get very dusty either making it a great low maintenance option.

Are There Eco-Friendly Options?

If you purchase post-industrial ceramic tiles, you will be able to benefit from the environmental benefits. They will be made from recycled materials making it a great option for people who are looking for something that is better for the environment.
